What you don't know could hurt your bottom line Let’s begin with a question: Do you know who is behind the wheel? The reality is that for many enterprises with employees who drive as part of their job, the answer is, “I think so,” or maybe, “no.” Driver risk management has recently become a top issue for many organizations since it directly affects budgets and the bottom line. The fact that there are more than 100 million people driving for work-related activities on U.S. roads and many of them have invalid, suspended or no driver’s license at all should be cause enough for concern. But combining this with the facts that: • most organizations’ budgets are at best flat • P&C insurance rates are rising 14% every 2 years • 90% of crashes are due to human error • there are fewer qualified drivers available today • the number of lawsuits around negligence are skyrocketing • and it becomes clear that understanding exposure to driver risk is imperative for every organization. So what do

The Internet of Things (IoT) unleashes valuable business insights through data that’s gathered at every level of a retail organization. With IoT and data analytics, retailers now have the capability to gather insight into customer behavior, offer more personalized experiences, achieve better inventory accuracy, create greater supply chain efficiencies, and so much more. But with data comes great risk. A recent report by security firm Thales and 451 Research found that 43 percent of retailers have experienced a data breach in the past year, with a third reporting more than one breach.1 Intel® technology-based gateways and Asavie, a provider of next-gen enterprise mobility management and IoT connectivity solutions, offer a security connectivity solution that minimizes the effort and cost to businesses to ensure safety from cybersecurity attacks. In addition, the Intel/Asavie IoT solution provides retailers with a solid basis to build their smart, connected projects:

o With foot traffic falling and online shopping options growing, retailers must find new ways to “digitize” and understand real-world behavioral data—such as in-store browsing patterns, staff attentiveness, and specific product interest— in the same way that online retail utilizes big data to optimize online experiences. They must also find innovative ways to keep customers engaged with their brands, especially in expensive brick-and-mortar locations. In this environment, managing labor costs is critical, as these costs are second only to real estate. Assigning and enabling sales associates cost-effectively is key to profitability. Retailers have an opportunity to meet their challenges by putting new data and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies to work

The world is an uncertain place. Particularly for cyber security professionals, many of whom have learned the hard way that they can’t rest on their laurels. New technologies and fresh threats are constantly emerging, and these threats come from both outside and within organizations. In our 2019 privileged access threat research, we discovered that almost two thirds of respondents (64%) think it is likely they’ve suffered a breach due to employee access, while 58% say the same about vendors. Meanwhile, the devices intended to make life easier can expose businesses further. Although hostile, external attacks are considered a significant or moderate concern by 61% of businesses, the threat of misused or abused insider access follows very closely behind at 58%. At the same time, 57% of security decision makers perceive at least a moderate risk from Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) policies and the Internet of Things (IoT) at 57%. Established organizations around the world are grappling with the dawn of the digital transformation (DX) economy as they find themselves disrupted by digital natives. In the digital age, traditional organizations risk being disrupted if they keep the status quo. For resource-constrained IT organizations, cloud services will be the foundation for their DX journey. This IDC InfoBrief takes a closer look at the new infrastructural requirements of transforming organizations and how managed cloud services are enabling their DX journey – with three key industries in the spotlight: • Retail – Retailers are expected to be significantly more mature in their cloud adoption in two years, and the next 12 months will see more deployments of hosted private cloud to support their business goals. • Travel and Hospitality – Enterprises will invest in hosted private cloud and IaaS, and adopt cloud-based applications to gain positive business outcomes from supply chain, enhanced guest experience and p

Enterprises in Asia Pacific now run multiple clouds with sizeable workloads, and cloud technologies have become increasingly challenging to manage. While IT organizations seek specialized expertise to keep pace with the constant change and complexity, what they are met with instead, is a global shortage of skilled cloud experts. As the costs in recruiting and training talent rises, the situation escalates into a hurdle to implementing cloud strategies. To better understand the cost of cloud expertise, Rackspace teamed up with the London School of Economics (LSE) and independent research house Vanson Bourne, to research on the severity of the problem. This e-book covers the findings to provide thought-provoking insights into why you should drive your cloud journey along the managed cloud provider route, if you were to be caught in a no-win HR loop.
