One of the biggest challenges IT ops teams face is the lack of visibility across its infrastructure — physical, virtual and in the cloud. Making things even more complex, any infrastructure monitoring solution needs to not only meet the IT team’s needs, but also the needs of other stakeholders including line of business (LOB) owners and application developers. For companies already using a monitoring platform like Splunk, monitoring blindspots arise from the need to prioritize across multiple departments. This report outlines a four-step approach for an effective IT operations monitoring (ITOM) strategy. Download this report to learn: How to reduce monitoring blind spots when creating an ITOM strategy How to address ITOM requirements across IT and non-IT groups Distinct layers across ITOM Potential functionality gaps with domain-specific products

When we released our first white paper in February 2015 discussing the ways multi-location businesses were using online media to drive in-store visits, most of the strategic opportunities being leveraged by marketers revolved around using things like promotional coupons, beacons and other tactics. While those methods certainly provided incremental lift in in-store traffic and revenue, there existed a number of gaps in connecting online data associated with promotional efforts, to data that indicated a customer actually converted offline at a business location. At press time for our original “online-to-offline” white paper, digital industry giants were still very much in the early stages of evaluating data points that signified offline customer conversions. Many of these “conversions” were somewhat implied (i.e. Clicks on “Get Directions” link), while others were a bit more reliable in signifying in-store visits and purchases made by consumers (i.e. downloadable coupon redeemed in-store

About $3.7 trillion is spent annually in consumer purchases in the United States, according to Deloitte. But it’s often forgotten that only 8% of that is spent on e-commerce. This means that offline brick-and-mortar spending is where the true scale occurs. In order to support consistent franchise growth for your business, digital strategies must be designed to impact every stage of the franchising life cycle.

Location3 client Mountain Mike’s Pizza and their franchisees face significant competitive challenges when advertising on Google, which ultimately requires the need to be both incredibly efficient with campaign setup and incredibly precise when managing bids and local budgets. A quick Google keyword search for “pizza near me” in Mountain Mike’s home state of California yields over 58,000,000 results (“pizza delivery” yields 56,000,000) and often features a predictable set of ad results from industry giants like Domino’s and Pizza Hut, among others. Suffice it to say that buying “pizza”-related terms in AdWords can get incredibly expensive, incredibly quickly, if a local franchisee’s budgets and bids are not managed with precision. When you combine that fact with limited location-level advertising budgets, our team atLocation3 was presented with a significant challenge in helping Mountain Mike’s Pizza generate increases in customer pizza orders while simultaneously ensuring that ad spen

Connecting and protecting organizations as their people disperse to more locations and need access to resources inside and outside the enterprise are driving a renewed focus on operational efficiency and security efficacy. While the fundamental concerns of confidentiality, integrity, and accessibility are unchanged, the cost and potential losses to organizations continue to increase, making the role of C-level infrastructure and security executives more complex than ever before. A recent IDC survey of CISOs ranked the following as the top 5 scenarios keeping them up at night: • Breach disclosure on the front page of WSJ and so forth • Leak of 50% of employee HR records • IT systems to be a source of major attack against partner • Target-style breach • Leak of 10% of PHI/PII customer records

In the PC era, employees operated from within a well defined enterprise IT perimeter and passwords were sufficient to establish user trust. In this dynamic access environment, organizations need a different approach to security that is able to: • Establish user trust using multiple factor authentication • Correlate user trust with other factors such as endpoint, app, network, and more • Apply adaptive, risk-based policies that match the user’s environment

After several years of relentless hardware and software innovation, the mainframe is at an inflection point from being a supporting platform of transaction revenue to becoming a source of revenue growth and innovation. Organizations are evolving toward what IDC calls the “connected mainframe.” The platform is transforming from a revenue-supporting machine into a revenue-generating machine and is increasingly playing a central role in organizations’ digital transformation (DX) journey. Key steps in achieving the connected mainframe require organizations to modernize and integrate the platform with their internal and external environments. IDC finds that these modernization and integration initiatives lead to new business innovations, which in turn are driving revenue growth and improving organizational operational efficiency.

Businesses are struggling with numerous variables to determine what their stance should be regarding artificial intelligence (AI) applications that deliver new insights using deep learning. The business opportunities are exceptionally promising. Not acting could potentially be a business disaster as competitors gain a wealth of previously unavailable data to grow their customer base. Most organizations are aware of the challenge, and their lines of business (LOBs), IT staff, data scientists, and developers are working to define an AI strategy. IDC believes that this emerging environment is to date still highly undefined, even as businesses must make critical decisions. Should businesses develop in-house or use VARs, systems integrators, or consultants? Should they deploy on-premise, in the cloud, or in some hybrid form? Can they use existing infrastructure, or do AI applications and deep learning require new servers with new capabilities? We believe that many of these questions can be

IT has moved from the back office to the front office in nearly every aspect of business operations, driven by what IDC calls the 3rd Platform of compute with mobile, social business, cloud, and big data analytics as the pillars. In this new environment, business leaders are facing the challenge of lifting their organization to new levels of competitive capability, that of digital transformation — leveraging digital technologies together with organizational, operational, and business model innovation to develop new growth strategies.
