We have conditioned patients not only to expect opioids for pain relief, but to utilize more and more of them, and the addiction is both psychological and physical. To remedy the situation, a lot of policies and practices and behaviors must change around how the health care system approaches pain. But we do not yet have the data and analytics we need to determine what specifically to do at the patient level or the policy level. Download this whitepaper to learn more about the resources available and how we can fix this issue.

We are in the midst of a global productivity crisis. The IMF estimates that if productivity growth had followed its pre-2008 financial crisis trend, overall GDP in advanced economies would be about 5% higher today. The term outsourcing can have a negative connotation, conjuring images of layoffs and relocating jobs to third parties in remote locations. However, outsourcing can take many forms, and finance and accounting outsourcing (FAO) does not always mean the displacing of the finance back office. Specifically, FAO leverages digital technology to complement and support the back office, streamlining processes while providing enhanced transaction processing, reporting and analytics capabilities. It also allows key resources to focus on strategy, analysis and decision-making.

There has been growing buzz about DevOps. DevOps is a methodology that unites the often separate functions of software development (Dev) and production and operations (Ops) into a single, integrated, and continuous process. DevOps is about breaking down the barriers between Dev and Ops. It leverages people, processes, and technology to stimulate collaboration and innovation across the entire software development and release process. Dev and Ops should always be part of an integrated process, but that’s not always as easy as it sounds. You may be stuck in what we call “Dysfunction Junction.” Read this eBooklet to learn about the pitfalls of DevOps, how you can avoid them, and how to get started on your DevOps journey.

New data from Google¹ reveals that 5 out of every 10 consumers who search online locally for goods and services will visit a store within 24 hours. If your business does not have a strong online presence locally, a large portion of ‘good fit’ consumers who are motivated to buy products or services you supply are potentially visiting your competitors’ stores.

With Mac labs being a major presence on university campuses, many IT admins rely on imaging to ensure computers do not fall prey to viruses and costly data breaches, and to provide students with the education resources they need to be successful. The problem is imaging machines is a tedious and manual process, requiring lots of IT time. In this white paper, we examine a better way to manage a Mac lab and explain how to: • Leverage Apple’s Device Enrollment Program (DEP) to automatically configure and enroll Mac devices into management • Make apps and resources readily available for students to use, regardless which computer they choose • Ensure students only have access to the resources relevant to them by binding machines to your school’s directory services system

A Practical Guide to IDF/MDF Infrastructure Implementation Once relegated to early adopters and casual home users, VoIP (voice over Internet protocol) has matured. An essential element of any unified communications (UC) system, it is now the standard method of voice communication in business, education, government and healthcare. If your organization has not already migrated to VoIP, the question is not so much if it will, but when. Cost is the primary driver, since the data network performs double duty by carrying voice traffic as well. VoIP also offers capabilities that far exceed traditional phone systems, with unified communication platforms promising to integrate messaging, mobility, collaboration, relationship management, zoned security, intelligent call routing, disaster recovery, video, teleconferencing, status updates and other advanced features. The transition to VoIP presents a number of challenges, including assessing the ability of your network to handle not only additio

Poor quality of care takes a tremendous toll, not just on the system as a whole, but on the patients and their families at the center of that system. It also has a tremendous effect on employers, who already face unsustainable health care costs. When we evaluated one of our customer's claims, we found numerous signs of preventable complications that had cost our client significant amounts, not to mention the toll on the individual. Specifically, we identified the following preventable hospital- acquired conditions (HACs): • Fourteen instances of stage III and IV pressure ulcers • Twelve instances of vascular catheter-associated infections • Thirteen instances of catheter-associated urinary tract infections • One instance of a patient dying or experiencing a serious disability associated with intravascular air embolism • Five instances of foreign objects remaining in patients after a procedure. Please download the whitepaper to learn more!

This white paper examines the economics of deploying Red Hat's Storage Server. Based on GlusterFS, a distributed file system that Red Hat acquired as part of Gluster, Red Hat Storage Server is ushering in a new era of software-based storage (also known as software-defined storage by many suppliers) solutions. Such solutions leverage commodity x86-based hardware from server vendors and a distributed shared nothing architecture that allows businesses to build out a service-based storage infrastructure in an economically feasible manner.

However, risk-averse enterprise IT professionals are understandably cautious about simply moving their entire IT portfolio of resources and services into a 100-percent cloud architecture. As with most technology-adoption curves, enterprises have not embraced an “all-or-nothing” paradigm, instead preferring a pragmatic, “evolution, not revolution” approach of cautious incrementalism. This helps them account for their existing investments, custom work, business requirements, and risk posture. Not everything will move to the cloud – at least not in the foreseeable future. That’s why so many IT professionals advocate a so-called “hybrid” approach. But what do we mean by “hybrid” and how do we optimally balance the various components of a hybrid cloud architecture?

Raising IT inlet temperatures is a common recommendation given to data center operators as a strategy to improve data center efficiency. While it is true that raising the temperature does result in more economizer hours, it does not always have a positive impact on the data center overall. In this paper, we provide a cost (capex & energy) analysis of a data center to demonstrate the importance of evaluating the data center holistically, inclusive of the IT equipment energy. The impact of raising temperatures on server failures is also discussed.

Connections are great. Having a network to connect to is even better. Humans have been connecting, in one form or another, throughout history. Our cities were born from the drive to move closer to each other so that we might connect. And while the need to connect hasn’t changed, the way we do it definitely has. Nowhere is this evolution more apparent than in business. In today’s landscape, business is more virtual, geographically dispersed and mobile than ever, with companies building new data centers and clustering servers in separate locations. The challenge is that companies vary hugely in scale, scope and direction. Many are doing things not even imagined two decades ago, yet all of them rely on the ability to connect, manage and distribute large stores of data. The next wave of innovation relies on the ability to do this dynamically.

Effective security for cloud-hosted web applications requires full visibility into the environment in which the apps live and the potential exposure to vulnerabilities — and to do so consistently, while proactively monitoring for attacks without causing delays in application development and delivery. Cloud adoption means that a focus on perimeter security is not sufficient and may even be obstructive, because it can impact application performance and availability. Similarly, relying on your cloud service provider’s security services is insufficient; any provider will tell you that securing the cloud environment is a shared responsibility between cloud service provider and customer, and the responsibility for specifically securing web applications is the sole responsibility of the customer. And although the industry as a whole has become better at protecting lower-level network and server resources, as attackers look for targets, they are moving up the application stack.
