Your global organization’s network of human capital management (HCM) platforms is the nerve center of your entire enterprise. But passing data back and forth between disparate HCM systems has never exactly been easy. So your HR, payroll, talent, benefits and time and attendance systems, often specific to regions and countries, fire futilely across data synapses that in real-world terms leave you blind to the true state of your business.

In global, multicultural organizations, simply expecting all employees to speak one common language, such as English, marginalizes the potential impact of international talent and leaves monolingual staff ill-equipped to help the organization compete effectively in a globalized environment. In an increasingly global economy, U.S. companies will perform better by hiring individuals who can communicate in foreign languages and helping current employees develop language skills. Forbes Insights, in conjunction with Rosetta Stone, surveyed more than 100 executives at large U.S. businesses (annual revenues of more than $500 million) and found that language barriers have a broad and pervasive impact on business operations. The survey found that foreign language skills will be even more vital in the future and that language abilities can help executives advance their careers, speed overseas expansion, and boost corporate—as well as personal—success.

IT Teams are reporting satisfaction with their organisation’s performance, but the gaps between their aspirations to drive innovation and thei ractions to see it through tell a different story. Across the organisation, respondents are not clear which department owns innovation. On top of that, the organisation is burdened by too many projects, which creates a conflict between quality and quantity. As a result, globally and across all lines of business, the majority of innovation projects do not make it to market. This problem is exacerbated by a lack of collaboration and clear leadership. Fortunately, organisations are placing value on the customer experience, thereby helping to move the business forward. Unfortunately, this momentum is hindered by the lack of priority that the organisation places on talent. Overall, organisations are generating ideas but struggling to execute them due to poor process and lack of focus. As a result, there is a big gap between ambition and ability, a

For many companies, language barriers increase as business globalization becomes the norm rather than the exception. Perhaps a call center agent cannot handle customer contact in an unfamiliar language. Or a manager travels to a face-toface meeting only to sit across a conference table from clients wanting to speak in their own native language. Even within your organization, teams across global geographies must collaborate to achieve collective goals, but language barriers often stand in their way. Meanwhile, HR leaders are tasked with recruiting and retaining top talent and L&D managers must align programs with business goals. Each of these scenarios and areas of responsibility have something in common: A clear need for company-sponsored training to develop employees’ language proficiency so they can engage successfully with colleagues and customers anywhere. Thousands of learners were surveyed about the impact of language training with Rosetta Stone® business solutions.1 Results show

Knowledge and strategic relationships fuel many organizations in today’s rapidly changing, global economy. As such, organizations need to leverage the individuals—and their networks—that possess the most relevant knowledge, whether they are current employees or are only loosely connected to the organization. To do this, organizations should create and leverage peer collaboration networks that enable them to identify and connect with individuals who have the unique skills, knowledge, and capabilities these organizations need. Bersin’s Research, Why Reputations and Networks Matter in the Open Talent Economy, indicates that this approach works in driving value—organizations that have effectively used internal reputation networks and profile databases have been able to increase key metrics such as employees’ time to productivity and innovation levels.

Global business has affected no group more than Human Resources (HR). Recruiting, hiring, developing, and retaining global workers is more complicated in a global economy adding another layer complexity, and without doing those things effectively, companies simply can’t grow. Therefore there’s more pressure than ever on HR leaders to develop and execute new workforce and talent strategies. Unfortunately, many HR organizations are simultaneously juggling these demands with a set of legacy technologies that are not up to the task because they don’t address the increasingly complex nature of HR’s role in the business.
