Hewlett-Packard (HP) is unique in this EMA Radar in its ability to combine two threads – a single analytic overlay as embodied in its Service Health Analyzer (SHA) product, and a broader suite solution optimized for HP to participate in all three use cases here with maximum functional impact. This is not entirely a black-and-white situation, as SHA does leverage and currently largely depends on integration with HP Business Service Management 9.1, which is itself a suite. But SHA can assimilate other third-party sources, checks out brilliantly in early-phase deployments in terms of time-to-value and analytic power, and is the lead reason for HP’s strong Value Leader showing in technical performance management.

"Many large enterprises struggle to decide which workloads and systems should be deployed in the public cloud versus on premise. With a strong on-premises platform in place, organizations benefit from increased reliability, speed, and security. On the other hand, by leveraging the public cloud, they gain increased flexibility and recovery capabilities. So, what goes best where? Jim Rapoza, Senior Research Analysts at Aberdeen Group and Chuck Hollis, Senior VP at Oracle, will provide guidance aimed at helping organizations choose the right platforms for their critical workloads. They will analyze how Best-in-Class enterprises effectively integrate on-premises solutions and the public cloud, and recommend steps that businesses can take to become IT infrastructure leaders."

In the modern digital age, traditional barriers to entry and time to market have fallen. Agile businesses can turn an idea into an app, host it in the cloud, and quickly deliver it to millions of customers on their chosen devices and platforms. In comparison, many larger enterprises miss new business opportunities because they’re mired in managing complex, legacy infrastructure, inefficient cross-functional workflow and approval processes, and lengthy audit and compliance requirements.

All native and ‘transitioning’ media companies are focusing heavily on content to save existing businesses, or building new business models, or both. Television broadcasters, wary of the growing cord-cutting, are spending large sums on premium content. In 2017, the top four media companies spent more than USD 34 billion on original and acquired non-sports programming. Pure-play OTT providers have, on the other hand, bet big on content to shore up on subscribers. Netflix alone spent more than USD 6 billion on content last year, while spend was USD 7 billion for Amazon and Hulu combined. Transitioning media companies, such as telecom and technology companies that are moving towards being a media company, are also allocating sizable funds for content in their quest to explore supplementary businesses, by boosting customer engagement on their platforms. Apple and Facebook have started creating their own original content, and spend is only going to expand further.

Consumer industries are facing once in a lifetime changes in the way they engage and interact with their customers and consumers. Whether consumer products, retail, or wholesale, there are two broadly unifying trends. First, consumers have both heightened influence and increased expectations. Second, several largely untapped digital technologies have the potential to enable new capabilities to better satisfy customer needs. For the key consumer industries of agribusiness, consumer products, life sciences, retail, and wholesale, the Internet of Things (IoT) will enable many new opportunities. These industries have a shared goal and challenge: to be able to create and offer engaging end consumer and/or customer experiences at scale. Part of the way that companies will achieve this goal and respond to this challenge is by developing digital transformation (DX) strategies. Such strategies enable new and potentially disruptive capabilities with a broad range of technologies.

Scale events — like online sales and digital product launches — present great revenue opportunities, but they also present large risks to your business. Whether you are a retailer preparing for Black Friday and Cyber Monday, or a digital vendor launching a new service, your brand is both at its most visible and its most vulnerable during these scale events. Many more customers visit your site over a short period of time, raising the potential for resource constraints and discovery of software bugs. Information about issues spreads quickly via social media and news outlets. And, your customers typically spend more per transaction, so every lost order has a greater negative impact on your bottom line. Site reliability engineering (SRE) can help you better prepare for scale events through an iterative cycle of data-driven improvement.
