The Insurance industry continues to undergo significant transformation, with new technologies, business models, and competitors entering the market at an increasing rate. To be successful in attracting and retaining the most valuable customers, insurance companies must innovate and increase the speed at which they respond to customer demands. Traditionally, the insurance software market was dominated by a handful of specialist vendors with products that were initially expensive, difficult to deploy, costly to maintain, and did not provide the speed needed for today’s market. Now there has been a shift away from these “black box” applications to platforms that allow insurers to make their algorithmic IP available to business users, allowing much faster response to business demands. The algorithmic platform approach also comes at a fraction of the cost of black box solutions, while delivering advanced analytical techniques like Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Machine learning is proving its power across virtually every industry in ways that add actionable insight and efficiency. But one can look at the rise of this transformative paradigm with a more focused lens to see AI technologies as a business tool of the highest order, one that improves processes and inspires new models. AI, in other words, has a big role to play on the balance sheet. Two leading brands in very different spaces — Capital One in financial services, John Deere in agriculture — are seeing efforts that stretch back decades come to fruition with the launch of cloud-based AI platforms. Capital One is developing digital products and experiences using machine learning to help millions of customers with their financial lives; John Deere’s Precision Agriculture solution helps farmers gain precise information about their machines and crops. In both instances, AI and a cloud platform combine to enable transformation.

Sentiment is at an all-time high, and the majority of organizations—51 percent—use cloud BI in 2019. Cloud-based BI vendor products and services are now more plentiful than traditional onpremises products. Still, vendors support any deployment option the customer chooses: public, private, or hybrid, at multiple levels of scale and price. Customers benefit from these choices, which reduce the chance for vendor lock-in. Users have not settled on deployment models but are migrating toward subscription and the adoption of managed services. Ou

Ecommerce has emerged as a by-product of consumerism; the digital marketplace has freed both consumers and merchants from the restraints of proximity. This has resulted in spiraling growth. Marketing in 2018 is unrecognizable to the marketing of the 1980s. Back then there were only a few communication channels available, whereas now there are a myriad of options. Thanks to the digital revolution, the shopfront now sits on the consumer’s coffee table. Brands now cater for empowered customers, and as such, it’s become tougher for marketers to know where to allocate their budget and how to keep their message consistent. At the highest level of organizations, a new management directive has emerged to meet the changed nature of customer demands and interactions as well as the need to differentiate within the market. This directive has one goal: providing a differentiated customer service experience. As products become increasingly commoditized, organizations can set themselves apart from their competitors by providing a unique customer service experience that creates a "relationship" based on intangible benefits that their customers will find hard to give up. While this vision is theoretically sound, it requires a significant tactical shift in business thinking and processes. The modern customer's habits and service requirements have changed radically. Meeting these needs challenges many historically held beliefs and practices regarding the customer and modes of interaction.

For a company that sells wool products, the dog days of summer can be tough. Despite this challenge, Pendleton has managed to stay relevant even during the hottest days of the year thanks to Bluecore. “In June and July, having Bluecore send people emails based on what they browsed is especially helpful because we don’t have as many messages or new products going out. So as often as people come to our site is as often as they’ll get emails, and those emails are guaranteed to be relevant to them. If the onus was on blast emails, then we’d be showing people products that are not necessarily relevant to them or that they might think are terribly out of season,”

The current trend in manufacturing is towards tailor-made products in smaller lots with shorter delivery times. This change may lead to frequent production modifications resulting in increased machine downtime, higher production cost, product waste—and no need to rework faulty products. To satisfy the customer demand behind this trend, manufacturers must move quickly to new production models. Quality assurance is the key area that IT must support. At the same time, the traceability of products becomes central to compliance as well as quality. Traceability can be achieved by interconnecting data sources across the factory, analyzing historical and streaming data for insights, and taking immediate action to control the entire end-to-end process. Doing so can lead to noticeable cost reductions, and gains in efficiency, process reliability, and speed of new product delivery. Additionally, analytics helps manufacturers find the best setups for machinery.
