Any organization wishing to process big data from newly identified data sources, needs to first determine the characteristics of the data and then define the requirements that need to be met to be able to ingest, profile, clean,transform and integrate this data to ready it for analysis. Having done that, it may well be the case that existing tools may not cater for the data variety, data volume and data velocity that these new data sources bring. If this occurs then clearly new technology will need to be considered to meet the needs of the business going forward.

IDC believes that actionable threat intelligence is going to be a significant factor in improving this metric. Companies with multicloud services are outperforming their peers on a number of metrics — and achieving the key objectives that led them to the cloud services model. Take a look at the IT ecosystem of any company today and there’s a good chance you’ll find it includes offerings from several cloud services providers. That’s certainly the case at mid- to large-sized companies with at least 500 employees, according to a recent survey conducted by IDG Research. The survey of 100 senior IT professionals found that 59% are already multi-cloud adopters — that is, using computing and storage services from two or more cloud providers. Another 31% of respondents say they plan to become multi-cloud organizations in the coming 12-24 months, with only 10% still in the “consideration” phase. The survey results also reveal interesting insights into the drivers behind multicloud adoption. The perennial desire to reduce IT costs remains important, but the respondents rate two other factors.

Most notably, advancements in Artificial Intelligence (AI) has given rise to data-centric applications in machine learning. The cloud is here to stay, and Microsoft SharePoint users are finally making the move. Since 2013, the number of SharePoint users with intentions of moving their SharePoint sites to the cloud has doubled, according to a 2015 AIIM survey.1 Many users are making the change to reduce IT costs, improve access for external partners and increase mobility.
