This assessment shows that enterprises adopt Red Hat Fuse because they believe in a community-based open source approach to integration for modernizing their integration infrastructure that delivers strong ROI. For these organizations, Fuse was part of a larger digital transformation initiative and was also used to modernize integration. IDC interviewed organizations using Fuse to integrate important business applications across their heterogeneous IT environments. These Red Hat customers reported that Fuse has enabled them to complete substantially more integrations at a higher quality level, thereby supporting their efforts to deliver timely and functional applications and digital services. Efficiencies in application integration with Fuse have generated significant value for study participants, which IDC quantifies at an average value of $75,453 per application integrated per year ($985,600 per organization). They have attained this value by:

Description Organizations are shifting to containers for its many benefits, including increased developer productivity and an improved, modernized environment for customized applications. While Kubernetes helps organizations get the most out of those benefits, it is complex by nature and can be difficult to manage on your own. Developers need a solution that drives productivity without needing to worry about managing infrastructure. SUSE Cloud Application Platform on Amazon Web Services (AWS) provides a lean and fast platform to accelerate containerized application delivery. By leveraging a managed Kubernetes environment, SUSE makes it easier for DevOps teams to deliver applications, accelerate innovation, and improve IT responsiveness.

For many organizations, the wide area network (WAN) infrastructure that connects an enterprise’s remote and branch offices has not changed for decades. Over the years, organizations consolidated many regional data centers into a few highly available data center locations which meant that remote locations had to connect to centralized applications over WANs and all internet traffic went through these data centers as well. This introduced bandwidth constraints and latency issues. The development in WAN optimization provided incremental and measurable improvement in WAN performance and provided some bandwidth cost containment. However, that technology typically was only deployed at the most problematic sites that struggled to achieve acceptable levels of performance and user experience. It did not solve all the issues with WAN connectivity. WAN infrastructure planning was limited to increases in capacity that were met by provisioning additional carrier MPLS (multiprotocol label switching)

What is SD-WAN? Software-Defined Wide Area Network (SD-WAN) is the application of software-based network technologies to WAN connections to more effectively route all network traffic between headquarters or data centers, remote and branch offices, and the cloud. More simply, it is the method of leveraging the benefits of the cloud, the bandwidth of broadband and existing enterprise-wide network infrastructure to more efficiently and cost effectively transmit media (data, video, voice) and quickly access cloud applications from every location in the network. SD-WAN dynamically utilizes multiple available connections (MPLS, broadband, LTE) to find the optimal delivery path for traffic across the entire network, shaping the bandwidth as needed to eliminate jitter and dropped data packets, thereby delivering an optimal user experience regardless of location. The more sophisticated solutions will first attempt to dynamically steer traffic to the best available link and if the available link

Big Data and analytics workloads represent a new frontier for organizations. Data is being collected from sources that did not exist 10 years ago. Mobile phone data, machine-generated data, and website interaction data are all being collected and analyzed. In addition, as IT budgets are already under pressure, Big Data footprints are getting larger and posing a huge storage challenge. This paper provides information on the issues that Big Data applications pose for storage systems and how choosing the correct storage infrastructure can streamline and consolidate Big Data and analytics applications without breaking the bank.

Applications are the engines that drive today’s digital businesses. When the infrastructure that powers those applications is difficult to administer, or fails, businesses and their IT organizations are severely impacted. Traditionally, IT assumed much of the responsibility to ensure availability and performance. In the digital era, however, the industry needs to evolve and reset the requirements on vendors. HPE Nimble Storage has broken away from convention and transformed how storage is managed and supported with the HPE InfoSight predictive analytics platform. HPE engaged ESG to conduct a quantitative survey of the HPE Nimble Storage installed base, as well as non-HPE Nimble Storage customers, to better assess how HPE InfoSight positively impacts customer environments. In response to the federal government’s Cloud First initiative, agencies are moving to the cloud at an accelerated rate - moving on-premise applications, data and workloads to cloud infrastructure and adopting SaaS technologies like Salesforce, ServiceNow and Workday. What many in government have found is that integration and looking for government integration solutions has emerged as a stumbling block that has prevented government from realizing many of the benefits of moving to the cloud. This is because while a growing number of applications adopted by government are in the cloud, the underlying integration technologies connecting these applications are still based on-premise, meaning that government IT teams still have to spend time provisioning and maintaining infrastructure to ensure that their middleware doesn’t become a performance bottleneck for their applications. Join us for a conversation with MuleSoft CISO Kevin Paige on why cloud integration is key for agencies to succe

IDC strongly believes that the days of homogenous compute, in which a single architecture dominates all compute in the datacenter, are over. This truth has become increasingly evident as more and more businesses have started to launch artificial intelligence (AI) initiatives. Many of them are in an experimental stage with AI and a few have reached production readiness, but all of them are cycling unusually fast through infrastructure options to run their newly developed AI applications and services on.

Modern application architectures such as microservices are changing the way that modern enterprises run their infrastructure. Enterprises have become application-centric, investing significant effort and resources on continuous delivery goals and DevOps practices to achieve automation of routine IT and operations tasks. And now with the emergence of containerized applications, it is critical to re-evaluate how application services are provided across data centers and multiple cloud environments.

Software-defined architectures have transformed enterprises to become more application-centric. With application owners seeking public-cloud-like simplicity and flexibility in their own data centers, IT teams are under pressure to reduce wait times to provision applications. Legacy load balancing solutions force network architects and administrators to purchase new hardware, manually configure virtual services, and inefficiently overprovision these appliances. Simultaneously, new infrastructure choices are also enabling IT teams to re-architect applications into autonomous microservices from monolithic or n-tier constructs. These transformations are forcing organizations to rethink load balancing strategies and application delivery controllers (ADCs) in their infrastructure.

Most cloud infrastructure vendors offer companies a stable and secure environment on which to build and run their applications without having to manage a data center, invest in hardware, or install and update software. While most cloud vendors provide the same types of services, they differ in how they charge for and deliver those services.

Docker containers exploded onto the scene in 2013 as a better way to develop software and has quickly become part of the enterprise infrastructure. Organizations often start by containerizing applications -- either components of a monolithic application or new distributed applications. But containerization itself isn’t enough to become more innovative. It requires changing processes, culture and the overall organizational mindset. That makes a container platform essential to success. In this paper, we will discuss what a container platform is and why it’s a critical part of any effort to drive change and innovation in the digital economy.
