DigitalOcean commissioned Cloud Spectator to evaluate the performance of virtual machines (VMs) from three different Cloud Service Providers (CSPs): Amazon Web Services, Google Compute Engine and DigitalOcean. Cloud Spectator tested the various VMs to evaluate the CPU performance, Random Access Memory (RAM) and storage read and write performance of each provider’s VMs. The purpose of the study was to understand Cloud service performance among major Cloud providers with similarly-sized VMs using a standardized, repeatable testing methodology. Based on the analysis, DigitalOcean’s VM performance was superior in nearly all measured VM performance dimensions, and DigitalOcean provides some of the most compelling performance per dollar available in the industry.

The cloud has become a valued part of modern infrastructure and there are now more resources than ever to help organizations secure their cloud environments. Even with all of the available tools and resources, there are still a million ways to configure services incorrectly. Public and non-public breaches seem to happen weekly and the maturity of the information security program doesn’t seem to influence the likelihood of the breach. One easy mistake in a cloud environment can be disastrous and it’s reasonable to be concerned when a new breach report hits the news. Just like anything in security, there are no magic bullets, but to help address these concerns, NetSPI recommends some general guidelines to help get ahead of the cloud security curve. In the beginning of 2019, a National Safety Council (NSC) study revealed that for the first time in US recorded history, the odds of dying from an opioid overdose (1:96) surpassed those of dying in an auto accident (1:103). As a result, opioid overdoses are now the number one cause of preventable injury deaths in the United States. The growing trend of opioid-related workplace incidents is a major concern for supply chains across the world. Every three years, members of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) meet to review, modify and add new National Electrical Code (NEC), or NFPA 70, requirements to enhance electrical safety in the workplace and the home. This year’s code review is well underway: the second draft of NEC 2020 is complete and the annual NFPA Conference and Expo is scheduled for late June. What follows is a preview of what are, in my opinion, the most significant code changes on track to pass. In this blog, I’ll explore the reasoning for each change and the future steps the NEC may take beyond 2020 regarding: Ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) protection Service entrance equipment Reconditioned equipment Performance testing Load calculations Available fault current and temporary power This is a high-level overview.
