For 20 years running, SAS has landed a coveted spot on Fortune’s 100 Best Companies to Work For list. Our HR department plays a critical role in keeping current employees engaged and productive as well as anticipating and preparing for future workforce needs. How? One reason is our use of data and analytics to drive HR decision making. It would be easy to assume other companies see the value of analytics; however, a Deloitte survey found 75 percent of HR leaders rate analytics as a priority, yet only 8 percent say their HR organization has a strong analytics capability. I had the pleasure of meeting David Harcourt, Associate Manager of Employee Insights at Yum! Brands when he spoke at the Analytics Experience 2016 conference in Las Vegas. His session, “HR Analytics from Scratch: 8 Lessons Learned in the First Year,” provided valuable insight into what it takes to build HR analytic competency from scratch. His mission is to share with others what he wishes he’d known when he started bui

New research from IBM found that one-third of employees surveyed at Fortune 1000 companies are sharing and uploading corporate data on third-party cloud apps. Why? They’re tired of workplace apps that don’t perform like their personal apps: intuitively, on the go, and with some intelligence. Saying “yes” might feel good to your teams, but it can also turn your infrastructure into a Beast. You don’t know all the different apps being used, like file sharing or online meetings. Or how much they cost. Or if your content is safe and manageable. Can you give your teams what they want without getting trampled by the Beast? Yes you can. You can transform the Beast into a Beauty. But you need to consider three critical ways to make that happen.

For many companies, language barriers increase as business globalization becomes the norm rather than the exception. Perhaps a call center agent cannot handle customer contact in an unfamiliar language. Or a manager travels to a face-toface meeting only to sit across a conference table from clients wanting to speak in their own native language. Even within your organization, teams across global geographies must collaborate to achieve collective goals, but language barriers often stand in their way. Meanwhile, HR leaders are tasked with recruiting and retaining top talent and L&D managers must align programs with business goals. Each of these scenarios and areas of responsibility have something in common: A clear need for company-sponsored training to develop employees’ language proficiency so they can engage successfully with colleagues and customers anywhere. Thousands of learners were surveyed about the impact of language training with Rosetta Stone® business solutions.1 Results show

We know that flash storage can provide significant benefits and deliver needed agility for large businesses, but what about medium-sized businesses (MMB = 500 to 999 employees)? IBM asked Forrester Consulting to look into adoption and use of flash storage technologies by mid-market organizations. A snapshot survey of 106 IT professionals found the following: › MMBs are actively adopting flash storage › Flash is exceeding expectations regarding cloud management, flexibility and security › A majority of respondents expect to continue their investments, with almost half aspiring to an all-flash storage environment. The rise of social media, coupled with the desire to build more engaged and productive workforces, has brought “active employee listening” to the forefront of management attention. No longer is it enough to encourage employees to speak up about topics that matter to them. Organizations today need to more actively solicit, analyze and engage in ongoing conversations with past, present and even future employees. Having access to the collective “employee voice” can help leaders achieve diverse goals, including identifying innovations, preventing discord and improving productivity, as well as building a better connection to the organization and its mission. So, how can organizations establish and manage mutually beneficial listening programs? To better understand what companies are doing in the area of employee listening and the extent to which employees are willing to participate, we analyzed data from the 2015 IBM Smarter Workforce Institute WorkTrends Survey – a broad-based survey of ov

Unless you’ve achieved that digital data nirvana (and you haven’t told the rest of us), you’re going to have some unknowns in your world. In the world of security, unknown threats exist outside the enterprise in the form of malicious actors, state-sponsored attacks and malware that moves fast and destroys everything it touches. The unknown exists inside the enterprise in the form of insider threat from rogue employees or careless contractors – which was deemed by 24% of our survey respondents to pose the most serious risk to their organizations. The unknown exists in the form of new devices, new cloud applications, and new data. The unknown is what keeps CISOs, what keeps you, up at night – and we know because we asked you.

There’s discussion in the HR industry today about companies requiring employees to submit vital health statistics (weight, blood pressure, body fat) or pay a fine, usually seen as an increase in health premium payments. Some say it's "technology-enhanced discrimination on steroids," while others say it's a great incentive for employees to take their health seriously. Virgin HealthMiles wanted to know what healthcare buyers think about the policy, and here’s what you said in a March 2013 survey:
