The current era in cyber security is characterized by three fundamental challenges: the complexity of the enterprise network and connected infrastructure, the speed of newage attacks, and the strain of overwhelmed incident responders. In many ways, the expansion of networks and continual adoption of new technologies - from cloud services to the Internet of Things - has expanded the attack surface and introduced new entry-points through which attackers can gain a foothold. This, combined with the ready availability of exploit kits on the Dark Web, has led to the ‘vicious circle of the SOC’, where incident responders are so busy fire-fighting that they rarely have time to implement the critical patches that would prevent the problem at source. As security teams struggle to keep up with the rising volume of routine attacks, a new generation of cyberthreat has also emerged, characterized in large part by fast-moving threats that make an impact well before humans have time to respond. We’ve all come to expect the same security, performance and reliability from our mobile applications as we do with native applications. But these apps don’t just run on our mobile devices. They are powered by a variety of backend infrastructure – a hidden but important layer of application components and network devices. NetScaler helps this invisible layer of infrastructure to perform and communicate, improving security as well as quality of service. And by integrating with XenMobile, you can offer greater support and a better experience for mobile users. Learn more about delivering improved security, reliability and performance through mobile environments by reading our full report, Defend Hidden Mobile Web Properties (link).

While holding the promise of HD quality, enriched services, and the benefits of a common packet switched access infrastructure, the adoption of infrastructure-based voice over LTE (VoLTE), along with rich communications such as video and real-time messaging, has stalled over the last few years with concerns around quality, security, and cost. During that time, the value of the phone number as a globally significant user ID and key services such as SMS and MMS have been relegated by phone manufacturers, over the top (OTT) services, and even the subscribers themselves as “technologies of last resort.” Finally, the proliferation of 4G, together with the emergence of network functions virtualization (NFV), powered by Intel®, Hewlett Packard Enterprise* (HPE), and Metaswitch*, is allowing network operators to take charge of the consumer’s communications experience, once more.

Security risks and breaches have become part of the daily landscape as companies and organizations of every size and in every vertical and industry announce that they have been compromised. In 2016 reported security breaches were up 40%, and this year is on pace to surpass that steep rise. Over the past year alone, there have been high-profile breaches in the gaming, financial services, hospitality, food service, consumer packaged goods, and retail sectors. Many of those breaches occurred due to vulnerabilities in applications and on websites. For example, this past April, the IRS announced a breach attributable to a tool designed to fetch data for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form.

This paper covers some of the critical security gaps today’s mobile-cloud enterprises must address: • Unsecured devices. Unsecured devices allow users to easily access business data from mobile apps or cloud services simply by entering their credentials into an app or browser on the device. Once on the device, data can be easily compromised or shared with unauthorized, external sources. • Unmanaged apps. These typically include business apps, such as Office 365 productivity apps, that the user has downloaded from a personal app store instead of the enterprise app store. As a result, these apps are not under IT control but can still be used to access business content once the user enters his or her credentials. • Unsanctioned cloud services. Most enterprise cloud services have associated ecosystems of apps and services that integrate using APIs. While the enterprise cloud service might be sanctioned, apps and services from its ecosystem might not be.

Cloud Access Security Brokers (CASBs) serve as a critical control point to ensure the secure and compliant use of cloud apps and services. Cloud service providers typically maintain a shared responsibility policy for security—they guarantee the integrity of their service infrastructure, but the customer is responsible for securing actual app usage. In addition to the growing cloud security challenges organizations face to safeguard data and protect against threats in the cloud, total volume of cloud app adoption is accelerating, with most of it being done by business units and employees without approval or security oversight from the IT organization. As a result, CASB functionality has become so critical that by 2020 it is projected that 80% of enterprises will use a CASB solution. (Gartner)

Today’s IT departments face a unique set of challenges. On one hand, they have evolved from helpdesk support teams to key business enablers and must maintain increasingly complex IT landscapes while combatting significantly larger cyber security threats. On the other hand, they have to manage constant change with fewer resources and static, or minimally-increasing, budgets. As a result, many are looking to reduce costs while increasing efficiency and productivity. Some, in fact, are looking to Device as a Service, or DaaS. If you're looking for more reasons to convince your CFOs that DaaS is a smart move, download the whitepaper to explore five big benefits of deploying a best-in-class DaaS solution.

The more you invest in an internet hybrid infrastructure, the more exposed you can be to internet events. At the internet infrastructure layer, this can mean unavailable destinations, poor performing paths and security events such as DDoS attacks. The fact is that there are thousands of internet events that happen every day and when it comes to DDoS attacks 97% of them happen at the infrastructure layer. You shouldn't rely on a single DNS service to protect you from all of these potential problems. Just like everything else in your IT architecture you should always have a backup plan. How you implement a redundant DNS architecture is not a given. Watch this informative webinar and learn about different ways you can get the benefits of a hardened internet infrastructure layer that fits your existing and planned online architecture. Get insights and examples from our DNS experts on different key approaches.
